Aww sookie sookie now!  It is a very exciting day here at Edge of Urge. Our very own Jessie Williams was chosen as one of the top 5 finalists for Russell Simmons’ ‘Race to BE’ competition! The ‘Race to Be’ is a nationwide competition that encourages creative young artists to step up and accomplish their entrepreneurial goals… a.k.a. Jessie Williams DUH.

Jessie was chosen out of hundreds of applicants and will soon be on her way to the Big Apple to compete in a challenge to determine the winner… this comes as no surprise to us.  We all knew she had it in the bag, and boy did she have it!

The ‘Race to BE’ competition Jessie is participating in consists of a workshop with industry professionals and then a competition will follow that includes the finalist creating a “pitch” and presenting it to the judges. The winning pitch will be judged upon creative content, business viability, marketability, and the “it” factor.

After the competition on November 21, Russell Simmons (you all know the successful entrepreneur and record industry mogul) will present the winner with their prize. The prize includes $5,000, a mentoring opportunity, possible internship, post-event PR exposure for their winning concept, and a take-over of the world.  Well the last one’s not quite true, but we’re sure it will happen in time.

Closer to the competition, you can check out webisodes of the race at www.unleashingideas.org.

We are so proud of Jessie and can’t wait to see her kick butt in NYC! Good luck!

Hometown: Raleigh, NC
Favorite designer/brand: William Rast
Style idol: David Beckham
Bad habit: I can’t control my face… uhh, if I don’t like something… you’ll know.

Hey hey… soooo, a little bit more about me. A lot of people make fun of me cause I grew up in Indiana… but you know what, we grow some bangin’ corn. And you know what else… ok, so all we have is corn. I’d say my lingo is a little crazy. Here are just a few words that frequently pop out of my mouth: Things such as - hot damn, holler, tranny, bangin, oh hell naw, and tranny. And such as. I love food a.k.a. Subway, lean-cuisines, coffee, and Red Bull. On the for real, for real… I just like to have fun, I love fashion and design, and I enjoy any spontaneous random act of craziness.

YOU can ask us anything!
Like “what shoes to wear with that outfit” or “how the hell do you spell chartreuse?”
We’ll also be adding some cool new features to the Edge of Urge blog - like how to get a certain look, celeb styles you want, and dos and don’ts right off the street.

Hello, beautiful. My name is Michal - and surprise, surprise I am female. No, my parents did not want a boy; they wanted me (of course). I am a chameleon in that my style is ever changing and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I believe in being my own muse and thoroughly enjoy making a giant-super-nova of myself. I hope to continue educating myself with the diversity that exists around us by meeting many people including kind people, intellects, people with open minds, existentialists, robots, zombies, sloth, people who have read a book, yes, an entire book, and …gulp… you.

Age: 22

Favorite designer/brand: Hype
Style idol: Kate Hudson
Bad habit: When I get excited… I can’t control the volume of my voice.

Hey guys here’s a little more info about me… I left the mean streets of B’more to get educated in the lovely little city called Wilmington. Actually, Baltimore is not a scary place at all, but after getting accepted to UNCW, I relocated down to North Carolina and have not been able to leave ever since. In jobs that I have held in the past I have been known for: scavenging food from anyone that has it, consuming large amounts of Diet Coke in short periods of time, and being asked to control my voice. I really just like having a good time and being around positive fun-loving people!!
